Parsa Mazloumin
Highly Recommend! by Parsa Mazloumin, June 17 2026 I flew with Matthew Sparks for my spin endorsement, and the experience exceeded my expectations. Although we only flew together for one day, it was immediately clear that Matthew is not only an excellent pilot, but also a terrific instructor.
He has a way to take complex aerodynamic concepts and make them feel simple, practical, and easy to understand.
I also had not flown aerobatics in about two years, so getting back into it with Matthew made the flight even more memorable. One of the biggest takeaways from the day was that when you fly with him, you are going to learn something new.
I would absolutely recommend Matthew for spin endorsements, aerobatic training, or tailwheel instruction.

Jordan Feldman
Highly Recommend Professional Instructor by Jordan Feldman, June 16 2026 Matt is a very personable and knowledgeable instructor. He's very patient and good at explaining what's going on. I went to him as a part of a spin clinic through the club to gain real spin experience. I plan on going back to him for both aerobatic and non-aerobatic training.

George Lyddane
Would Recommend! by George Lyddane, June 5 2026 As someone pursuing my CFI certificate, I trained briefly with Matthew Sparks to obtain my required spin endorsement. Despite only spending one day training with him, his aeronautical knowledge and flying skills made a lasting impression on me. He has an exceptional ability to explain complex concepts in a way that anyone, from a child to a pilot to an engineer, can understand. I would highly recommend him for spin endorsements, as well as any aerobatic or tailwheel training.

Great Instructor by Martin Michaelis, December 17 2024 Matt is a great instructor and fun to fly with. No matter if it's for the regular private pilot license or tailwheel & aerobatics, he's the person to fly with.

Jacob Syage
Sparky is the man! by Jacob Syage, May 9 2023 Sparky is the man! I took my Spin Clinic flight and a BFR with him and couldn't have been happier with his instruction. He is enthusiastic and passionate. He's not simply trying to log hours to get to an airline, he really wants you to succeed and build confidence. Definitely hire Matt for any training you need. From mild to wild.

Brian Cox
Great pilot. Great instructor. by Brian Cox, June 17 2022 This affable chap is the instructor I needed in San Diego. He covers the whole field, from basics in the 172 to Cirrus training, IFR, and aerobatics. I'm constantly impressed with his depth of knowledge in both flying and airplanes. He comes with a complimentary British accent too, so you'll get special Bravo clearances that you wouldn't be able to get by yourself.

Matt Klier
In Depth and awesome by Matt Klier, June 16 2022 Sparks is extremely well versed in not only flying but instruction as well, he broke every maneuver down as to why you were doing what you were doing, not just "do it like this" Complete and thorough descriptions, followed with perfect demonstrations. Phenomenal instructor, as you all know just because you can do something doesn't mean you can teach others to do it too, being an instructor is a skill all its own. Sparks knows exactly how to relay the information so you can understand it.

Alexis Nahama
Combine useful exercises and fun! by Alexis Nahama, November 8 2021 For anyone looking for a great instructor, recommend Sparky hands down. Am an 800+ hours commercial multi ifr pilot … so don’t need any help, right? Not quite. Had some hard time just visualizing how to CONSISTENTLY land the Great Lakes for my check out. Sparky took the time to listen, advice and then put together some “exercises” to get me there fast = think flying over the runway - practicing cross wind by keeping the nose aligned and balancing the plane from right to left. Not your traditional stabilized approach to the threshold - but I didn’t need more frustration doing the same thing for that pesky 3 degrees off heading that would make the plane swivel on landing. After multiple passes (fun too) and working differently it just started clicking. Thank you! Always a lot to fine tune and Sparky can help you too!
